Zyggy is now FINTRAC-registered in Canada: Why this matters and what it actually means for how we operate.
---
When we started Zyggy, our goal was simple: make cross-border payments seamless, especially for people moving money to and from Africa. That meant building infrastructure that works—fast, reliable, and transparent.
But "works" isn't just about speed or uptime. It's about trust. And trust in financial services starts with compliance.
The Registration
As of November last year, Zyggy is officially registered as a Money Services Business (MSB) with FINTRAC—the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada.
What that means: we've met the legal requirements under Canada's Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act to operate as a financial services business serving Canadian clients.
To get there, we built out:
A full AML/ATF compliance program with clear policies and procedures
Dedicated compliance leadership with decision-making authority
Robust KYC, transaction monitoring, and reporting systems
Regular risk assessments and independent reviews
And we maintain all of this—not just for a one-time check, but continuously.
What This Unlocks Operationally
Registration sounds administrative. But here's what it actually means for Zyggy's capabilities:
Compliant fiat-crypto settlement. We can now process fiat-crypto flows into and out of Canada with full regulatory alignment—no shortcuts, no grey areas.
Cross-border payment routing. Canada is now a fully compliant origination and destination corridor in our payment network. That matters for businesses and individuals moving money between Canada and Africa.
Treasury operations with stronger credibility. Banking partners and auditors look for this kind of regulatory footing. It makes our treasury workflows more defensible and scalable.
Clearer onboarding for Canadian clients. When we bring on Canadian counterparties, we're already operating on a foundation that meets their regulatory expectations.
Why Canada?
Canada has become a jurisdiction of choice for fintech and crypto businesses for good reason. It offers:
· A clear and transparent regulatory framework—businesses know what's expected
· No minimum capital requirement, making it accessible for growing companies
· A crypto-friendly stance—Canada was among the first to regulate digital assets clearly
· Global credibility—a Canadian MSB registration is recognized internationally, which matters for cross-border payments
This isn't why we registered—we registered because we serve Canadian clients and it's the right thing to do. But it's worth noting that this puts us in good company with other global payment providers and fintech platforms that see Canada as a regulatory anchor.
Infrastructure We Already Built, Now Formalized
Here's the thing: we didn't build compliance for registration. We built it into our operations from the start—know your customer, transaction monitoring, record-keeping, reporting.
FINTRAC registration is validation that the infrastructure we already built meets the standard.
It's one more layer of foundation. One more signal to our partners and clients that we take this seriously. One more reason to trust that when we move money across borders, we're doing it the right way.
Zyggy is FINTRAC-registered. Same team, same product, stronger foundation.
